What can I say about my dragons den appearance, (more lack of appearance).
I will start at the beginning, I applied for the show, didn’t give it another thought, got a call the next day to meet with them!
Meeting went great, they said I was pretty much guaranteed to be on the show. The excitement was incredible!!
The producers wanted me to bring Finnan, my 7yr old on the show, I felt that would be pretty cringy, acting out handing him a star. Also, I wanted to be taken seriously as a business woman, and not be just a “mom” but naturally if my kid is there, I am a Mom before anything!
So I went with my gut, and didn’t bring him. Maybe this was the wrong call, and with him, my segment would of been aired, but at what cost, it would of been pretty embarrassing for us both! So I stand by my call.
The experience in the den was pretty surreal and pretty frightening (as you can see by my face), all the dragons were very complimentary of my product, and of me for developing this concept and bringing it to market all on my own. One dragon so much so they asked to hold onto two kits!
Then came the “I am outs, one after another, with the final coming after a “I’m torn on what to do” moment.
And that was it, pack your stuff and go on your way! I was totally shocked,
A. It was my Birthday, and
B. A butterfly landed on my pitch while it was downstairs! And let me tell you, this was filmed in February!! And it was freezing!
So naturally, all the signs were telling me this was my day!! Well not so!
This was a pretty big hit for me, as it also questioned my whole belief, I mean, I felt like I was going to be invested, I knew it, there was no question!
So you pick yourself up, focus on the positives, OK, well, once it airs the exposure will be fabulous, once people hear about The Butterfly Spy and how well it works, orders will be piling in! Because, let me tell you, it really does work.
Then the next blow, sorry Jane, you didn’t make the cut, you will not make the show, however, “you will be featured in a colourful montage at the start!”.
This was devastating! When I got the email, I was tidying my wardrobe, I began to cry so bad, then said, hang on, what is crying going to do, also, look at your wardrobe, how can you be sad in this! So thanks to my lovely wardrobe. (It would be rude not to show you my wardrobe!)
I picked myself up not the first time, and it definitely won’t be the last time, and kept going! It is definitely tough launching a product all on your own, but hey, I’m doing it!
So tomorrow, I will feature on a colourful montage on dragons den, blink and you will miss it!
