Our Spy turned up this Morning!
Since our holiday, routine has not returned. Getting the boys to bed on time, with the bright evenings has become a tiresome charade once again. We have been late for school so many times, which is something I thought would never happen when I was a parent! (One of the many things you think you will never do as a parent- until you become a parent! First kid snacked on fruit and rice cakes, by the third he was sitting in his high chair eating crisps and chocolate!! Anything for the 12mins of silence!)
So this morning, their Butterfly Binky showed up again.
I have lots of feedback how other families use their Butterfly friends, some homes their Butterfly friend moves around, other homes the Butterfly friend leaves the stars on the cards. For us, Binky stays put, he only moves when he is a real Butterfly and we see him out and about. Mam and Dad give the stars on the card, and token rewards are agreed at the beginning of the journey!
So the boys know the main reason Binky is back; to get bedtime routine in check! Star stickers will and can be earned with good behaviour/deeds, as well as going to bed without fuss, this means no sudden thirst or hunger that seems to happen once they enter their bedroom, no excessive bathroom trips, 1 story each and no need for multiple trips upstairs for extra cuddles and re-tucks!
We have agreed when bronze token is earned we will go for a family cycle in Phoenix Park.
With silver, it’s a one on one day with Mam or Dad, with an activity of choice, for us it’s Dad, and practice time on the track. (We are bike mad in our house)
With gold token, that’s a camp night in the tent.
If your not familiar, each kid has their own card with a space for 6 star stickers, once 6 star stickers are earned, they receive their bronze token, remove star stickers from their card and earn 6 more to get silver token, and again remove stickers to earn gold token and special treat that has been agreed.
Every time I bring back our spy, it amazes me how well it works. I thought the novelty would of worn off, seeing all the butterfly boxes and seeing the process of me developing it, but it hasn’t. Finnan, who is nearly 8 is all about earning stars and tokens, not so much about the magic Butterfly anymore, and that’s ok. Max is still very much into the magic Butterfly!
The boys are so keen to earn stars they get dressed by themselves, brush their teeth, try new foods, all on top of correcting the bedtime issue!
We keep the boys cards in their bags beside Binky with the star stickers, so they don’t get lost and they are all to hand when a star is earned, convenience is essential, as with everything you get back what you put in.
I can honestly say, each time our spy comes back it transforms our lives. Myself and my husband have our own company’s. Daytime is pretty hectic and stressful, so for us, not having hours of drama is super important.
I am going to document our journey this time, so you can see our families experience with our Butterfly Spy!
