It started when I was at a low place, not knowing how to spread the word of the Butterfly Spy, not knowing what direction to turn. I was scrolling through Facebook and I came across a “viral” video, just a guy singing a parody!
Aha!! I can do that!! I’ll write a song, do a video and go viral!! Simple!!! Bahahaha, once again, so naive!!!
I picked a great song, little mix secret love song, and got to work writing! A nice singing voice is not something I have been gifted with, it’s comical how bad I am! But my wonderful cousin has the most amazing voice, so naturally I nailed her to do the vocals!
It was really exciting, I threw myself into writing the song, recording and planning the video, the distraction was perfect! Then the reality began to set it, after hours of shooting, arranging verses, bribing the kids (Finnan mostly) to act out scenes and hours of editing. It was still cringy and really crappy! It was wrecking my head, and became just another headache!! I decided best ditch my goal of going viral and let it go!
However it felt wrong walking away, after myself and cousin had put in so much work, I couldn’t waste it!
So I began to salvage it, this was when the magic happened, I decided to fill it with photographs of our family, (my teenager would not allow any photos of himself, rightly so, I was the same at that age, and he is not one of those selfie obsessed kids)!
I realised that going viral didn’t matter, look at my boys, look how they’ve grown and how fast the time has gone. It was really emotional re visiting these photos, many of the times captured I had completely forgotten about, especially the last clip! The boys were babies together and it was such a hard slog, that you take for granted they are little for such a short time. Everyday they are doing new things and making wonderful memories as well as driving you mad. It won’t be long until they’re grown! This made me see the importance of taking time out to pause, enjoy the moments, as life is happening now, and memories are created everyday! So how does going viral make my life better? It doesn’t! The best things in life are around me every single day!!! That feeling of getting into bed when your wrecked, a hot shower, a lie on at the weekend, a cuddle from your kids, the feeling when Dad comes home from work, the funny things kids say and do, the silence in the evening when they finally go asleep, none of these are effected by wealth or success these are beautiful gifts that we get everyday, but just sometimes don’t realise!
So here is my non-viral video, with so many memories, from the most precious times when my babies were still babies!
